EDUCATION
Hugo has over ten years experience teaching Latin, ancient Greek, Ancient History, Classical Art and Archaeology, and Art History at all levels, from classes in primary school to postgraduate seminars.
From 2015 to 2024 he taught Classics and Classical Art and Archaeology to undergraduate students at Oxford university. This included delivering lectures for the Classics faculty, as well as leading small group seminars and one-on-one tutorials.
Hugo’s teaching is guided by two simple principles: enthusiasm is infectious and curiosity is key. His essential aim is to inspire in others the same love for art and the ancient world that his teachers inspired in him.
Hugo is always keen to share his knowledge of art history and the ancient world with a broad audience. To this end he participates in outreach programmes to make the study of subjects accessible and has been involved in various museum projects, including public gallery tours.
In 2014 to 2015 he worked at the British Museum assisting the curator Ian Jenkins with the blockbuster exhibition, Defining Beauty: The Body in Ancient Greek Art.
More recently, he has worked with the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, where he directed a project called Talking Sense, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. For more information on the project, please see below.
